The CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance, organized by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club and open to all makes of cars and motorcycles, is the classiest event on the Kenya Motor Sports Federation calendar and is attended by over 10,000 people.
The event is also a social occasion and fun filled family day. The centre piece is the judging of 70 classic and vintage cars and 40 motorcycles under regulations approved by the Kenya Motor Sport Federation (KMSF).
Additional attractions include a children’s entertainment centre, live band music, fly pasts, a parade of all the Concours cars and motorcycles and a grand finale after the prize giving.
The spectators are motoring enthusiasts and their families from the middle and upper income groups. A significant proportion of the crowd is in the 17 to 35 year age bracket and women enjoy dressing up for Concours day.
The 2017 edition will be the 47th annual Concours organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club (Kenya) and will be held in the grounds of Nairobi Racecourse on Sunday, September 24th, 2017.
The Concours has Africa continental status for cars and motorcycles and has been an FIM-Africa recognised and sanctioned event since 2006.
In addition to the assessment of the classic and vintage cars and motorcycles, there are 28 Motor Trade stands, a Motor Sport Arcade, a Classics Car and Motorcycle Sale section, and a collection of old machinery and equipment under the amptly named Heritage Collection section.
Over the years, the event has attracted entries from Argentina, Australia, England, Germany, Malawi, Mauritius, Mexico, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe.
The overseas competitors have generated coverage of the Concours outside Kenya and the event has been reported by the BBC, SABC, Reuters, AFP, AP, EATV and UTV. DSTV regularly airs a half hour TV programme of the event each year.
The international reputation of the Concours has brought visitors to Kenya and has helped to publicize the country as a holiday destination. The Kenya Tourism Board uses DVDs of the Concours TV programme as a promotional tool for sports tourism and visits to Kenya by special interest groups.
